Endoscopy Services For Singapore

K K Sng Colorectal provides endoscopic exploration for patients suffering from a variety of symptoms. Both colonoscopy and gastroscopy are conducted at our clinic and an in-depth explanation of the procedures is provided below.

Colonoscopy

This involves using a flexible tube with an attached camera to examine the colon (large intestine) by gentle insertion through the anus. The image generated will enable the detection of abnormalities within the colon such as polyps, colorectal cancer or inflammation.

Polyps as small as one millimetre or less may be removed at our clinic through the scope at the same sitting. Upon removal, polyps can be dispatched for study to determine whether they are likely to become cancerous. Other more extensive lesions such as cancer or inflammation may be biopsied to aid diagnosis and further treatment. Side-effects are uncommon, but can include flatulence and minor wind pain due to air insufflation performed during the procedure.

Gastroscopy

More technically referred to as Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy, this procedure involves using a flexible tube with an attached camera to examine the stomach by gentle insertion through the mouth. Apart from the stomach, the scope also enables visualization of the gullet (oesophagus) and the first portion of small intestine (duodenum). The image generated will enable the detection of abnormalities such as ulcers, polyps, cancer or inflammation. The procedure is useful for the diagnosis of unexplained anemia, difficult or painful swallowing and persistent reflux or “gastric pain”.

Similar to colonoscopy, small polyps may be removed through the scope at the same sitting. Other lesions such as inflammation, ulcers or cancer may be biopsied to aid diagnosis and further treatment. Modern advances make this a safe, minimally-invasive procedure.
